Professor Piltonen, Specialist in Gynecology and Obstetrics, has been rewarded for her meritorious and exemplary science communication.

The award was presented by Marja Jokinen, Director of Communications at the University of Oulu, as part of the National University Communications and Marketing Days held in Oulu this year.

”Terhi Piltonen has a positive attitude towards communication. She dares to take a stand and share information, and she participates in social discussions in various forums in a straightforward and expert manner. Professor Piltonen has made women’s health a visible part of public debate and has made previously quiet topics, such as menopause, discussable and relevant for decision-making. Her way of communicating about science and research is educational, humane, and influential – from person to person.”

The selection criteria for the prize assessed, for example, activity in popularising science to the general public. The selection criteria have utilized concrete indicators of media visibility both in Finland and internationally, as well as direct feedback from journalists and the media.
