Treatment Guidelines
The Women’s Health Team actively contributes to the expansion of evidence-based treatment guidelines. Professor Piltonen has contributed to global guideline development for PMOS and unexplained infertility, and to the Finnish Current Care Guideline on contraception.
The Finnish Current Care Guideline on Contraception
Professor Piltonen was nominated as Chair of the expert committee on the Current Care Guideline process for contraception. The Current Care Guideline on Contraception was published on 7 January 2026. Available in Finnish (Käypähoito.fi).
The Finnish Current Care Guidelines are independent, evidence-based clinical practice guidelines that are developed by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim. The guidelines are produced by an expert committee and the Current Care Guidelines editorial team. The guidelines are publicly funded, and both medical professionals and patients are consulted in the process.
The International evidence-based guideline for the assessment and management of Polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS)
The International evidence-based guideline for the assessment and management of PMOS was developed by The Centre for Research Excellence in Women’s Health in Reproductive Life (CRE WHiRL), working in partnership with the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the Endocrine Society, the European Society of Endocrinology and the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) and in collaboration with professional societies and consumer advocacy groups internationally.
Professor Piltonen was nominated to chair Guideline Development Group 4: Management of non-fertility features.
The evidence-based guideline on Unexplained Infertility
The evidence-based guideline on Unexplained Infertility was produced by the development group of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE).
